Sarinah's Recent Bomb Terror Killed 7 People, But There Should be No Further Bad Implications

A few days ago, Indonesia was shocked by a recent news regarding bomb terror that killed many civilians in Thamrin, Sarinah, Jakarta. According to BBC News, 7 people were dead and 23 people were severely injured because of that attack. Metro Jaya Police Officers claimed that the man behind the attack was Bahrun Naim, a person who was willing to lead ISIS community in South East Asia. ISIS itself has officially released a statement that they were the ones attacking Jakarta on that day.

There's not much change happening in Jakarta because of that attack. The fear and insecurity that was felt by vast majority of people were only temporary. Regardless of the attack, they still go to their offices anyway and do their jobs as usual because they still have responsibility to do things demanded by their institutions. People still have to go to work because they still need to earn salary to feed their families and fulfil their basic needs. So, it is very much obvious that the productivity of people in Jakarta is not affected after all.

In addition, there is no reason for the people to be worried about using hastag #PrayForJakarta. People's assumption regarding the downfall of Indonesia's rate of exchange that happened due to the massive use of that hastag is very mistaken. According to Bank Indonesia, Indonesia's rate of exchange is getting weaker because the global economy is weakening - not because the investors stop investing due to the recent attack. Regardless of whether or not Indonesian people use such hastag, investors will be aware anyway that such attack happened in Indonesia. But, there is no problem with that because investors will still trust Jakarta companies due to the promising market that comprises a lot of consumers.

In conclusion, there is no need to be afraid about the recent attack in Sarinah. We need to be cautious but we can not jeopardize our families or our lives by choosing to stay home and stop working due to fear. We need to raise our awareness that ISIS is a bad actor and we need to consider them as a threat, but at the same time, we can not lose our focus in our work and end up being unproductive. Indonesia still has so many challenges such as the upcoming AEC that will start this year, so let our focus be used for that to bring development to our country.
